Tension

Tension stored in the body as a result of Physiological stress. This can be caused by a number of reasons; anxiety, stress, physical exertion, poor posture, loss, grieve or illness. The brain responds to stress physiologically by triggering the ‘fight or flight’ response. This results in muscular tension, resulting in aches and pains and restrictive muscular movement.

What is Sports Massage and Remedial Massage and how can it help relieve tension?

Sports and Remedial Massage is a form of deep tissue massage covering the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia.

The practical application of sports massage provides pressure, stretching, heat and movement which help to unlock the muscles, providing restored flexibility and movement. Over time, this helps to reduce repeated discomfort.

Most everyday injuries, aches and pains occur at work, home or in the participation of a sport. There are many contributing factors to muscular health problems, particularly the effects of stress.

Regular massages can effectively reduce stress levels, stimulating the body's natural ability to heal and repair itself by boosting circulation and encouraging nutrients to reach injured tissues.

Despite it's title, Sports Massage isn't just for sports participants. It is beneficial for anyone wishing to relieve muscular soreness or tension.

Thai Foot Massage

When I travelled and lived in Thailand in 2004, I experienced for myself the wonderful benefits of Thai Foot Massage. This unique treatment was unlike anything I'd experienced before, taking relaxation and de-stressing to another level! I thought it would be excellent to introduce it to my clients.

What is it?

Thai foot Massage is a deeply relaxing and therapeutic foot and lower leg treatment, using the therapist's hands, thumbs and a special bamboo wooden stick to stimulate the body's energy lines (sen lines) and systems. It has been practiced in South East Asia for over 2000 years and considered an important element of Thai medicine.

How does it feel?

Contrary to what some may think, Thai Foot massage will not make you feel ticklish! Deep, firm pressure is applied, focusing on 'grittyness' within the soft tissues. Rubbing, kneading and Vibration techniques are used with a rhythmic pattern, soothing the client into a bubble of ultimate relaxation. Some clients tell me that they feel 'floaty' after the treatment.

What are the Physical Benefits?

  • Can improve circulation in the legs and feet, great if you suffer from puffy feet and ankles due to pregnancy, illness or poor circulation
  • Stimulates Lymphatic Drainage
  • Helps to boost the immune system
  • Aids the removal of Toxins
  • Increases Oxygen to the Body
  • Can reduce stiffness and improve limb flexibility

Other benefits include;

  • Detoxification and strengthening of the immune system, thus preventing illness
  • Acceleration of Physical Healing
  • Reduces Stress
  • Helps with Insomnia
  • Encourages Relation and mental Tiredness

Who is it for?

*It is suitable for anyone, whatever age. The beauty of it is the client remains clothed, in a comfortable seated, reclined position, as if relaxing on a sun lounger. It is a wonderful treat for all, perfect if you want to spoil yourself or someone you care about. The treatment lasts around 35 minutes and costs £30 if performed on it's own or can be included either a half body or full body sports massage treatment.

*Some medical conditions may contraindicate treatment, doctors referral may be required.
